As your 2017 – 2018 Chapter President, I am extremely grateful to all of you as our valued members and am very humbled to be able to guide the Hawaii Chapter to exciting and new opportunities this year. I hope to see as many of you as I can at our events this year, whether it is a Meet & Greet, General Membership Meeting, Community Service Project, or at our Golf Tournament (on April 7th).
The Chapter has been very active over the last few years, and you may not be aware of our activities or accomplishments:
Conducted a Graffiti Cleanup Project in Kaimuki
Awarded scholarships to UH Hilo students
Recognized nationally for Membership Growth in 2015 – 2016.
Nominated two Public Works Projects (submitted by Bowers + Kubota) for National Award Consideration
Judged entrants at the Hawaii State Science Fair
Supported National Public Works Week with a display at Kahala Mall
Held various technical presentations throughout the year, including presentations on e-Plans, NextEra, and Complete Streets.
Held Meet and Greet events with our own State and City Department Directors, including a presentation from our own Lori Kahikina (ENV).
Toured HART and the Kaneohe-Kailua Wastewater Tunnel Project with our National APWA President.
Attended our National APWA Public Works Conference in Minneapolis, MN.
I hope to increase our energy, expand our community and member outreach, and provide valuable service and support to you, our Hawaii Chapter members.
We’re looking to fill our Board of Directors with officers for the upcoming years, so please feel free to let us know if you want to be involved!
I look forward to a great 2017–2018 year for APWA Hawaii Chapter, our members, and the public works profession in Hawaii.
