The Norwich University School of Graduate Studies in concert with The American Public Works Association (APWA) is offering a new "Public Works Administration" concentration in our on-line Master of Public Administration (MPA) program. There is still time to sign up for the 2008 HPI Conference, on October 27-28, at the East West Conference Center.  Agenda and registration had been attached previously.  Mr. Khalid Mahmood Lodhi will be the key note speaker.  Mr. Lodhi is the Director of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority in Islamad, Pakistan.  He will be sharing Government Reform Initiatives in Pakistan, the Significance of Procurement Training, Education, and Capacity Building, and finally Regulatory Oversight in the Context of Stemming Corruption in Public Procurement.

APWA TO DEVELOP HIGH SCHOOL OUTREACH PROGRAM  - Task Force Members Needed To Assist In Program Development Over the course of the next year, APWA will develop a high school outreach program for 9th through 12th graders. With that said, the marketing department is looking for five to seven APWA members to serve on a task force to help guide the development of this program.   PROGRAM OVERVIEW In an effort to continue APWA's outreach efforts of educating young people, APWA will develop a high school outreach program for 9th through 12th graders. This program will continue the path that elementary and middle school students undertook in Discovering and Exploring the World of Public Works. The 2009 Awards Program is now available online at our National APWA website.     There has been a new Professional Manager of the Year award category added, the Professional Manager of the Year Award in Administrative Management. This award seeks to recognize outstanding achievement in the area of administration within the public works department and to inspire excellence and dedication in the public sector by recognizing the outstanding career service achievements of administrative professionals.   The Public Works Project of the Year has had the cost of construction divisions revised to create a more balanced pricing variance within each division. Public Works Magazine has extended the deadline for their Department of the Year contest until Sept. 26, 2008. If you are interested in nominating a worthy agency, you can find entry criteria at www.pwmag.com/PWDOY.   The departments selected as winners will be profiled in the December 2008 issue of Public Works and will receive a plaque commemorating their achievement. A notable public works department should have a highly qualified staff, a diverse workforce, and a functional arrangement that encourages innovation and communication between its engineers, technicians, and staff members. In addition, the department should meet or exceed its budgets, provide for the safety of personnel in various working environments, offer convenient communication with constituents (citizens), and provide training or continuing education for its employees. The Jennings Randolph International Fellowship Program was established at the Eisenhower Works Affairs Institute in May of 1987 and is administered by the American Public Works Association.  The Fellowship supports participation at a public works conference of one of our international partners and a public works study tour in that country.  Currently, these partners include Australia, the Czech Republic, Mexico, New Zealand and the Slovak Republic.An application and further details may be found here.  An abbreviated version may be found here.APWA members from both the public and private sectors are eligible to apply.  Applications are due by November 14, 2008.
